I’ve obviously been drinking the Kool Aid for too long. After seeing the XOOM commercial for the Superbowl, I thought “Those are rather nice hoodies that the Apple drones are wearing. 😛

Good to hear the three of you together.

On unlocking, Telstra, the largest telco company here, don’t charge for unlocking iPhones – yay!

Also, I feel sorry for you guys sometimes when you talk about AT&T being (at the time) in an exclusive contract with Apple to sell iPhones and no one else could. Down here we have competition laws which basically say no one telco can have a monopoly on handsets, so Apple had to let all the majors (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, 3) sell the phone – one upside for a bit of regulation I guess.

I got my first iPhone with Optus and lasted six months on their shitty network (because Telstra, my usual provider, charged a fortune for their contracts). After six months I was able to cancel my contract and move back to Telstra and picked up my iPhone 4 from them with a great (at least for us here) contract. You probably know our calls are charged per minute, no IN minutes and our inclusive data is a bit crap – I get AU$750 worth of calls and text a month, along with 2GB of data.

So, after hearing Peter’s advise to J-Ong about which mobile device to get, I’ve decided to skip the iPhone and wait for the iPad part deux instead. I think I’m just caught up with the excitement of the iPhone coming to Verizon since it the primary reason why I couldn’t jump on the iPhone bandwagon and, to be honest, I’m really kinda leaning towards an iPad anyways because all the cool kids got them. But dammit!!! I really want I iPhone!! Don’t care how, I want it now! I need to find me a cute sugar daddy.

Speaking of iPads, why do you suppose the iPad is enjoying the success it’s getting now when just over a decade ago B-Gates introduced what is essentially an iPad (TabletPC) and that took off with a resounding thud. Have you guys discussed this already? Sorry if you have, I’m new. Anyways, I’ve always wondered.
