Hey Gomos!

I agree with Peter’s resolution to stop drinking sodas, we all probably would be better off doing less of that. However, I think maybe he might be doing that for the wrong reasons. This alleged mouse thing doesn’t really mean there’s a problem with sodas per sé. The mouse is essentially mostly meat, and the soda is quite acidic. This is the mechanism of the supposed mousey dissolution. This is also why sodas are sometimes used in marinades, thier acidic nature breaks down the meat fibers, like citrus juices do in other types of marinades. Now, is this a problem for us soda-drinking humans? It really isn’t, as we use stomach acids to do the very same thing, and our stomachs are designed to hold a somewhat stronger acid than that in sodas. We only have problems when our stomach acids escape the place they belong due to ulcers or acid-reflux. So, unless you already have some gastric issues, sodas won’t cause a problem in that area. They are hard on the teeth though, and have lots of sugar you might be better off not consuming (unless they are sugar free, in which case the artificial sweeteners are sometimes suspect).

Now, on to eating snake (the reptile, not Peter’s friend). One place I can recommend for doing that is near the place I grew up in Oklahoma. It’s the Waurika Rattlesnake Hunt, which is in early April every year. They just had thier 50th Anniversary. Here’s thier sadly Flashy website:

Like most things, it’s best breaded and fried, and yes, it tastes somewhat like chicken. Or actually like ‘gator but without the slight fishyness ‘gator has.

I would disagree with PB on one aspect of the food discussion though, he said we typically don’t eat carp in the US. This may be correct in a way, we don’t knowingly eat carp, but who can be sure what’s in those budget frozen fish-sticks and fish portions? 🙂

Hey Gomos!

Yet another great cast! Had to update my top 100 things to have eaten before you die after listening to you guys explain what some of the things were 🙂

On new years resolutions… I’m rooting for you Peter! Good for you. I’ve decided to quit smoking… going on 1 full week now with only one misstep last night… I’ve never been a heavy smoker but just want to be done with it all now… Once I get that under control (about a month) I’m gonna start getting myself back into shape… Tired of seeing the tub-o-lard looking back at me in the mirror… This is gonna be tough but I believe I can do it! I have so many more but don’t want to just ramble on here so just thought I’d tell you guys about those since they kinda went along with the ones you shared, Peter… keep it up! You can do it!
