Thanks for the info guys. You’re right about the speed of the HDD of course – though it’s only an extra $50 to gain the slight speed.

As for the screen, I don’t hook up to an external display, so the high res screen is probably the way to go.

RAM – Apple charge like a wounded bull for RAM; AU$220 to go from four to eight Gb? Fuck off Apple. OWC does the same RAM for US$46.88 or AU$43.68. /rant 😉

On the subject of an Air over a MBP, you’re right Peter, an Air just wouldn’t cut it for me. I need the grunt of the MBP and the extra ports really are a necessity when you’re hooking up various peripherals. True, the Air is light, but for heavy workloads that photographers, designers and the like do, it just doesn’t have everything you need.

Hey Gomos!

Words cannot express my sadness at not having you in my earbuds on a near daily basis *sob*. However, I understand your situation completely and will look forward to the 2-3 weekly shows with eager anticipation.

Regretfully, I do have to do disagree slightly with Peter about Microsoft Stores not having any of thier own branded products to sell. I assume they would have X-Boxes and associated gear like Kinnects. They also could have various Microsoft input devices, which are actually pretty good, and even have versions for the Mac. I use a Microsoft Mobile Mouse with my MacBook Pro when I’m on the road. I guess you used to be able to buy Zunes there, before they killed them off. Other than that, I guess there’s shelves of shrink-wrapped boxes of Windows & Office . . .
